Piet Mondrian was a painter in the early 1900’s know for his modern abstract paintings using bright colours and shapes such as squares. We will be using paint and paper strips for this project!

Materials
-cardstock or canvas
-black paper
-glue
-scissors
-pencil
-ruler or straight edge
-paint
-paint brush. A flat brush will work best
-water container and rag/paper towel
Instructions
1. On a paper or canvas, start painting random squares and rectangles in different colours all over. You can have a combination to shapes touching or individual shapes. Don’t worry about getting the edges and corners perfect and straight as we will cover them up with the black lines.

2. While the paint is drying, cut black paper into thin strips using a ruler and a pencil. These were about half an inch in width. If you don’t have black paper, you can paint a piece of paper black!

3. When the paint is dry, start cutting the strips down to size and glue them around the shapes. This will end up hiding the rough paint edges!

4. Continue gluing down strips. And you’re done!
